The 2016 WSMS Football team recently concluded the most successful season in school history this past Saturday. The TMSAA West Tennessee Sectional Championships were held at Kirby Stadium pitting our Spartans and the Haywood County Warriors. White Station was led by a stingy defense and an explosive and physically dominant offense en route to a 36-6 victory. The Sectional Championship was the first in Football for the school and capped an undefeated season for the Spartans (11-0).
Offensively, the Spartans were led by Deon Silas and the offensive line who shared the Championship game MVP honors. Jelani Willis and Dwight Holmes each managed the offense and helped carry the load which included converting on 3 2 point conversions and facilitating two TDs to Greg Rubin.
The defense was led by a spectacular effort by LBs Reggie Brown and Ethan Dabbs and D-Linemen Jeremy Boyland, Kris Peat, Kendall Mathis, Dorian George and Devennion Gunn who controlled an explosive Haywood offense that had lit up scoreboards all over West TN prior to Saturday’s contest.
Coach Coley Thornton and his staff would like to thank all of the loyal Spartan fans, Cheerleaders and true Green and White supporters that helped these young men reach goals they set back in preseason camp. It was a PHENOMENAL journey!
GO SPARTANS!!!!!!!!
